Kampala Home Tour!!!!

Let me describe our new home…it is on the second floor, up a short flight of stairs. The doors are 2 tall metal doors which are padlocked from the outside, have two large bolts on the inside, which can also be padlocked.

After walking through the (hopefully) impenetrable barricade, you are in the formal dining room/living room! It is furnished with a kitchen table and 4 padded chairs, a 3 person upholstered sofa, and 2 matching chairs. There is a veranda or porch off of this room, which looks toward the west (I think).

To the east of this room is a large kitchen that has a gas stove, microwave oven, plenty of cupboards (that are currently all bare of food), a sink, and a door that leads to another patio, which is on the east side of the apartment. This door is, again, padlocked, and the washing machine is sitting on it. I later learned from Sister Huskinson that the cycle to wash can take 1 ½ to 2 hours!!! There is a small pantry off of the kitchen which contains a short fridge/freezer combo. It should be perfect!

To continue down the hallway, the next door on the left has a toilet and sink.

Hope you're not exhausted with that extensive home tour...stay tuned for more exciting installations in the future!

The next door after that has a small shower and a sink.
The door after that has a bedroom which has clotheslines strung across it – it is the “dryer”! There are also clothes closets in that room, and we have stored our suitcases there.
The last door on the right is the master bedroom – it also has a queen bed (they use fabric-covered foam mattresses here), a mosquito net, some clothes closets, and the ever-important fan. It has a bathroom connected to it, which has a toilet (with super duper flushing power – no low flow restrictions here), a tub, and a sink.
