The Humanitarian Fund is AWESOME!

We got to travel to another Hand Over, located beyond the town of Jinja. There, the church provided help to a group of 300 widows, half of whom are HIV positive, and their children. These women, who live in ten different villages, received seeds, hoes, spray cans, cows, pigs, and goats in order to help sustain themselves and their children.

Each village performed their local dance and song to thank the church for their support. It was so wonderful to see the happiness displayed there, and to witness the huge pile of items that they left (as they concluded their dance)  on the table as another gesture of thanks. The Humanitarian couple, the Beans, were the lucky ones who got to deal with the fruits, vegetables, and the THREE LIVE CHICKENS given to them by the women. Someone (not us!) had fresh chicken that night!

The ladies patiently waited for their turns to perform...there were 10 groups of 30 happy women, many dressed in their traditional colorful gomez dresses.

The piglets were not happy about being paraded out in front of the group in order to be officially "handed over". They squealed and misbehaved famously!
Aren't these women beautiful! You try dancing and singing with a bowl of bananas on your head!
See her dancing partner?...a soon-to-be donated chicken. I didn't linger to learn of its eventual demise.

Kids always love to pose for a "snap", and then see themselves in the playback. This was taken at the end of the ceremony, and I even got two of the bigger guys to pose in the background!
